October 19th: Episode 25 "Voting And The Bible, part I"
We haven't talked politics in a while but here is the first in what will likely be a series of episodes discussing what the Bible says about leaders, authority, voting, and principles we ought to be applying when considering candidates. Show notes: This week we read "A Biblical Strategy for Voting" by Bill Fortenberry please note this is not an endorsement of any other views or theological beliefs the writer has, for BFL's statement of faith please go to our website. "So what kinds of things should be placed on the scale? We find the answer in the next several verses. In verse thirteen, we find that we should vote for a man who speaks righteousness. In verse fourteen, that we should vote for a man whose emotions are tempered by wisdom. Verse fifteen advises us to vote for a man in whose eyes Christians will find favor. Verse sixteen instructs us to elect a President who is wise and understanding; not with the wisdom of this world but rather with true wisdom which is from above (James 3:17) and which comes only through the fear of the Lord. (Psalm 111:10) In verse seventeen, we learn that the best choice for President is a man who departs from evil and faithfully follows the Lord. Verses eighteen and nineteen warn us against voting for a proud man. In verse twenty, we find that our vote should be cast in favor of a man who trusts in the Lord. Verses twenty-one and twenty-two tell us to choose a wise leader and reject the foolish, and verse twenty-three explains that while one candidate may have more knowledge than another, a wise leader will be able to gain the knowledge that he needs at the time that it is needed. And in verse twenty-four, we see that we should vote for a man who is kind and thoughtful with his words. These are the kinds of things that we should consider when choosing a President." Next week when we continue our discussion we'll be reading highlights from Bro. Jeff Short's "The Christian Voter's Guide" and be talking about a few particular candidates. |

April 4th: Episode 1 "We're Back"
This week we played a game of 20 questions between segments on current news & mission reports. Show Notes: 1. I have to correct something I said, I had said it was against the U.S. Constitution for our military to operate in our boarders what I SHOULD have said was; "The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 prohibits the use of U.S. military forces to perform the tasks of civilian law enforcement such as arrest, apprehension, interrogation and detention unless explicitly authorized by Congress. " 2. I apologize for spots where it sounds like we're talking over top each other, the softwear that records our skype conversation has a few bugs in it. Lord will we'll get this fixed. I assure you we don't really talk over top one another. 3. Links to articles we talked about: A. "Critics Fear TX Military Training Exercise Could Be Precursor to Martial Law" benswann.com/critics-fear-tx-mi…or-to-martial-law/ B. Henning von Tresckow en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henning_von_Tresckow |
